莱比锡 (德语:Leipzig; 索布语:Lipzk) 是德国萨克森州最大的城市，德国东部的第二大城市。位于萨克森州莱比锡盆地中心。它的古称是Lipsia或Lipzk，来源于斯拉夫语Липа，意思是“酸橙树”或“椴树”。歌德称它为“小巴黎”。
面积：297.61 平方公里
在1015年的一个文件中，第一次提到“莱比锡城堡”的名字。1165年这里建立了一个市场。这个日期现在被认为城市的建城日，以后每年都要举行两次大的商业性集会；1268颁发的特许状，使莱比锡集市更加规范化，成为博览会的雏形。
1409年，莱比锡大学成立，莱比锡开始了成为出版业中心的的发展历程，此后又成为1912年建立的德国国家图书馆的所在地。从1497年起莱比锡被允许开展博览会。1507年，神圣罗马帝国皇帝马克西米连一世下诏，规定莱比锡周围15德里的范围内享有集市优先权。从此莱比锡的贸易集市地位日益突出，最终发展成今日世界闻名的博览会之城。莱比锡图书博览会是世界最大的图书交易及博览会之一。约翰·塞巴斯蒂安·巴赫于1723年至1750年在莱比锡的圣托马斯教堂工作。
1813年，莱比锡成为拿破仑战争中著名的莱比锡战役（又称“民族战役”）的主战场，拿破仑的军队被普鲁士，奥地利和俄国的联军击败。为纪念这次战役100周年，
莱比锡曾经是德国第一条长途铁路的终点站，该铁路建于1838年，从莱比锡到萨克森首府德累斯顿)，莱比锡后来成为中欧铁路运中的重要枢纽。莱比锡车站的建筑也享有声誉，现在已成为欧洲最大的客运车站。
1863年，斐迪南·拉萨尔在莱比锡成立了德国的第一个工人政党——全德工人联合会（Allgemeiner Deutscher Arbeiterverein）。1920年代，法本公司|法本化学康采恩在莱比锡附近的洛伊纳（de:Leuna）建立了庞大的化学及石油工业综合体。第二次世界大战期间，莱比锡遭到盟军的猛烈轰炸，1945年4月20日被美军第60步兵师占领。
从1952年到1990年，莱比锡是德意志民主共和国莱比锡专区的首府。1989年爆发了针对昂纳克政权大规模的群众抗议活动。德国统一后，莱比锡发展十分迅速，现在居民已超过五十万。
莱比锡是申请主办2012年奥运会的城市之一，但是没有通过第一轮选拔。
老市政厅()：最初建于1556年，二次世界大战中被毁，现存者为战后重建。内部现为莱比锡历史博物馆对公众开放。
2002年后，保时捷（Porsche）和BMW|宝马（BMW）这2大汽车业巨头将工厂迁入莱比锡。
